What output protection does
The free channel includes a smoothing compressor and overall output protection. A shared stereo limiter limits peaks even when Plus processes multiple channels. It treats the two stereo sides together.
The limiter needs a short lookahead, with browser and device latency added. It therefore does not promise processing without delay. Clipping or noise already in the source remains part of the recording.
Leave room instead of maximising settings
- First set a suitable tab volume without strong sound adjustments.
- In the Plus mixer, add small EQ adjustments and listen to the overall output.
- Lower preamp or volume if peaks or audible pumping become distracting.
- Compare with Power off. This helps identify whether the problem is already in the original source.
The actual playback remains decisive
A limited digital output does not determine the volume of your amplifier or headphones. Adjust device volume too. Do not use high gain to compensate for a wrongly connected or muted output.
A worked example
A clip contains isolated loud peaks. Sound Boost combines compression with final output protection; Plus EQ accounts for additional headroom. This can limit peaks but cannot restore a damaged recording. Compare the problematic passage with Power off and then low gain. If the defect already exists in the source, avoid changing several protection and EQ controls to conceal it.

Check the result
If something is wrong
| Observation | Next step |
|---|---|
| Original is already distorted | Try another recording or lower source level; lost quality is not restored. |
| More percent has little effect | Consider protection and source level and judge intelligibility instead of the maximum setting. |
| Sound fluctuates | Compare with original at low gain and change one parameter at a time. |
Common questions
Can the limiter prevent every distortion?
No. It limits output peaks, but does not repair the recording or overcome output-device limits.
Why does audio sound different at extreme settings?
Compression and limiting intervene more strongly. Reduce gain and compare one setting at a time.
