Understand the Plus mixer

Use balance and mono in the Plus mixer

Balance and mono serve different purposes. Balance changes the left/right weighting; mono combines the stereo components for shared playback.

Check the cause before making a change

If audio is audible on only one side, first check connectors, the device and operating-system audio settings. A deliberately one-sided recording needs a different response from a faulty connection.

These controls apply to the specific Plus audio channel. They do not automatically change the balance of other programs. Plus sales currently remain disabled.

Test balance or mono

  1. Begin with centred balance and mono turned off.
  2. Play a familiar stereo section at a moderate volume.
  3. Adjust balance slightly if you want different weighting for each side. Check both sides afterwards.
  4. Enable mono for comparison and listen for changes in voice, instruments or spatial components.

Return to neutral sound

Stereo sometimes contains intentional phase and spatial effects. Combining it can reduce some components. If mono makes a signal worse, turn it off again; use Reset for a neutral baseline.

A worked example

A training video has speech only on the left. First test the same file without processing and a known stereo clip. If both device channels work, Mono with existing Plus access can combine playback for this tab. Balance instead changes distribution. Neither repairs broken headphones or missing recorded content. For normal stereo, return to Mono off and Balance Center.

Common questions

Does mono make every source sound better?

No. Mono is an alternative channel arrangement. A stereo recording can lose its spatial impression.

Does balance repair my headphones?

No. Check hardware issues on the device. A control can change weighting but cannot repair a faulty connection.
