# Distinguish pause, mute, zero percent and Power

Four actions can produce temporary silence while changing different states. Choose according to your goal.

## What continues running?

Pause stops player playback. Browser mute suppresses tab sound while the player may continue. Zero percent silences the processed channel. Power off stops Sound Boost processing and restores original audio.

A muted player may therefore be at another point later. Power off does not automatically mean paused. The Plus overview has protected mute and playback controls; Free adjusts active gain.

## Choose the appropriate action

1. For a break without losing your position: pause the player.
2. For silent continued playback: deliberately use browser mute.
3. For a gain test: compare zero with 100 percent.
4. For unprocessed original sound: turn Power off and replay the source.

## Check every layer before resuming

If no sound returns, check player pause, browser mute, gain and device in order. More gain does not fix a paused or browser-muted tab.

## Prepare the desired way back

Before a quiet break, decide whether playback should continue in time. Pause is usually easier to resume for a podcast; mute may suit live radio. Note the timestamp before interrupting an important passage. A gain slider does not know that player position. On returning, check browser mute and website player state as well as Power.

A browser-muted tab can still show a Sound Boost channel. A normal gain setting does not make that tab audible. Conversely, Power off restores original playback without necessarily removing every mute layer. Check states in sequence and keep device output moderate. This makes silence explainable instead of creating an unpleasant surprise later through ever-higher gain.

## A worked example

You set gain to zero and step away. The podcast continues. To resume from the same point later, use player pause instead. Turning Power off can make original audio audible again, so deliberately check both states.

Add your observations. This template processes no files and sends no report.

### Check the result

### If something is wrong

**Observation and next step**

| Observation | Next step |
| --- | --- |
| Playback position lost | Mute or zero does not pause; use player pause next time. |
| Power off makes sound audible | That is original audio; pause the player if you want silence. |
| Still silent after resuming | Check browser mute, gain and output device. |

## Common questions

**Does Sound Boost have Solo?**

The current interface has no Solo switch. Deliberately handle other players using pause or mute.

**Does zero percent end the channel?**

No. Zero silences the processed channel; Power ends processing.

Browser activation and a Plus entitlement are separate requirements. Protected content and specialised players can have their own limitations.
