# No audio or no player control?

Check the sound without processing first. This separates a player or output-device issue from an audio-channel issue.

By Impulse Apps · Content reviewed on 7 October 2026

## Test the original audio

Turn Power off and replay the section. Check whether the browser tab or website is muted and whether the correct output device is selected. A volume value of zero in the processed channel is also silent.

If the original audio also fails, begin with the website, browser and device. Do not simply raise the slider to its maximum; that does not resolve the cause.

## Check the channel step by step

1. Open the affected tab and activate Sound Boost there again.
2. Check Power, volume and mute, changing only one setting at a time.
3. Test a normal, unprotected website for comparison.
4. For Plus, check the displayed entitlement and connection instead of repeatedly switching profiles.

## Player control differs between websites

Play/pause needs a suitable HTML audio or video element. A custom Web Audio player must be controlled on the website. Browser and store pages, and some protected content, may restrict capture and control.

For support, include browser and extension versions, the affected action and the exact message. Do not share credentials or a private tab overview.

## A worked example

The controls move but the video is silent. First turn Power off: does original audio play? If it does not, the cause precedes Sound Boost or lies in the output device. If it does, test near 100 percent and check browser muting. Only then inspect activation and player control. Not every player exposes a controllable audio or video element; audible tab sound and remote playback control are different capabilities.

### Check the result

### If something is wrong

**Observation and next step**

| Observation | Next step |
| --- | --- |
| Original is also silent | Check website player, tab mute and device output. |
| Only play/pause fails | Use the website player; specialised players are not always controllable. |
| Only one website affected | Distinguish protection or player specifics using a normal comparison website. |

## Common questions

**Why does mute work but play/pause does not?**

Browser mute and player control use different routes. The player cannot be controlled without a suitable media element or tab activation.

**Is a distorted source an extension error?**

Compare with Power off. If distortion remains, it occurs before processing or at the output device.

Browser activation and a Plus entitlement are separate requirements. Protected content and specialised players can have their own limitations.
