# Adjust volume from 0 to 1000 percent

100 percent describes the channel’s base gain. Higher values raise quiet sources; they do not guarantee sound that is ten times as loud or distortion-free.

## Distinguish three volume controls

The website player, Sound Boost and your output device each affect volume. Raising Sound Boost does not make a muted website or a disabled device audible.

The free channel can be adjusted from 0 to 1000 percent. Zero silences the processed channel; Power instead stops processing and restores the original audio.

## Find a suitable gain

1. Set device volume moderately at first and check the website player.
2. Start Sound Boost in the relevant tab with a small slider adjustment.
3. Increase the value gradually until speech or music is clearly audible.
4. If the sound becomes harsh, distorted or uncomfortable, reduce the gain and check the source.

## More gain does not create new quality

Output protection limits peaks, but cannot repair distortion already in the original recording. Headphones and speakers also have limits. The slider value is a gain setting, not a measurement of loudness at your ear.

## A worked example

A lecture is quiet while advertising in the same player is much louder. More gain raises both. Start moderately and also test the louder passage. The percentage describes gain, not actual loudness at your ear. A setting that suits a quiet speaker may be unsuitable for the next source. Recheck after each source change instead of treating a high setting as a universal default.

### Check the result

### If something is wrong

**Observation and next step**

| Observation | Next step |
| --- | --- |
| 1000% is hardly louder | Consider source level and output protection; percentage is not proportional loudness. |
| Noise rises too | Reduce gain; the slider does not separate wanted audio from noise. |
| Next clip is too loud | Reduce gain immediately and compare the new source again. |

## Common questions

**Is 1000 percent always useful?**

No. Use the lowest value that is sufficient for your source. Very high gain can also raise noise and existing defects.

**Why does perceived loudness not rise proportionally?**

The source, output protection, device settings and your perception affect the result. Percentages are not a loudness measurement.

Browser activation and a Plus entitlement are separate requirements. Protected content and specialised players can have their own limitations.
